I love styled shoots. In case you aren’t familiar, as I wasn’t until I actually started photography, a styled shoot is a photo shoot dreamed up and put together by a group of collaborating vendors. They usually begin by someone having a specific vision or style of shoot that they want to create, and then enlist other professionals to help pull the shoot together and make it a reality.
These are wonderful for so many reasons. I promise not to bore you with all of them, but the opportunity to fully create a shoot, have control over every detail and get input from some other amazing industry pros is incredibly fun. Also, as a photographer, the ability to have an unrushed time in which to shoot is the beeeest. This really gives me the time to be creative and try new things. Think of it as practice. While I definitely love getting creative on wedding days, there are also shots I know I have to get to get the “safe shot”, because it’s a wedding. You can’t do those over again. Styled shoots are a relaxed atmosphere to really get those juices going, and they’re seriously invaluable!
This particular shoot was dreamed up by Megan, the hair and makeup artist behind Megan Oliveri. I met Megan at a networking event, and I was so excited when she asked me to be part of this! She had a particular makeup look she wanted to create and then saw a dress on Pinterest that went perfectly. The amazing Abby Lynn Bridal was so sweet and accommodating and entrusted us with it all the way from Wisconsin. The rest of the shoot was dreamed up with Devyn of Devyn Leigh Events. So many other amazing vendors participated in this shoot at Providence Cotton Mill (a DREAM of a venue!).
This day was freezing cold and rainy, but our models braved the weather and it turned out stunning! Experienced my first time shooting with mittens, but everyone kept great spirits and was so excited about the final result that it made it more than worth it!
And as this is a post for photos….I’m done! Make sure to check out the amazing vendor team linked below, and enjoy some of my favorites from this shoot!
