A Romare Bearden Engagement Session

I am so excited to share this Romare Bearden engagement session today! It instantly became a favorite. There are some nights where you just want to keep shooting, and that was this night. Brian and Cass were complete naturals, they looked amazing, and the light was perfect. A triple whammy that left me in photographer heaven. It was also so fun because I felt like we had so much in common, so this night really just felt like hanging out with friends.

I think one of the things that makes the biggest difference during an engagement session is when couples are able to fully relax and just be themselves. The majority of people absolutely love the more candid, natural looking photos. They’re always a favorite of mine, too. But if a couple really has their guard up and isn’t able to fully relax, it can make those shots look a little more forced.

I think Brian and Cass were so perfect because they were SO relaxed. They came in to have a great time, and they were up for anything. I always tell my couples to feel free to talk and interact, and they took that to heart. Cass and Brian interacted so adorably and genuinely, and it was so easy to photograph. I think all of my favorites from this session have Cass just flat out laughing, because it just seems so natural to who she is. (Having a drink mid session certainly didn’t hurt anything 😉 )

I’ll also say this- Romare Bearden did not used to be my favorite place to photograph. And while it can be busy there, I’ve learned where the best light is and where we can remove distractions, and I now really look forward to sessions here! The light in this session was so perfect, it’d be hard to convince any photographer it’s not a great location!

These two have been together for 6 years, and they’re getting married in PA in June. I’m so excited to follow their life together (sounds so creepy, but a perk of social media, I guess, ha). Enjoy a few favorites from our session at Romare Bearden Park!
